June Buggin’

Posted by MTL On June - 19 - 2007

No matter where you play in June, it’s going to be warm. The bugs will probably be out and you will have to be prepared for a long day under the hot and likely blazing sun.

RADL’s June monthly has always been at Zebulon as a way to prepare for the Cha-Ching and Zing®.  With the seasonal weather in mind, the June Buggin’ did exactly what you think it should. Golfers warmed up for the PDGA event, got rid of the bugs in thier mind about the course and were now prepared for the big show the next weekend.

15 golfers came out to Zebulon to test thier skills on the par 57 course. In the Open division it was RADL Secretary MTL battling three Greenville golfers. Jeb Bryant, a former winner of the Cha-Ching and Zing® in the Advanced division, fired the hot morning round of 48. Jason Myers was two back at 50 and MTL was in third 7 off the pace with a 55.

After Myers started bogey par and MTL started birdie birdie, MTL had a chance to catch Myers for second. MTL picked up a birdie on 6, a birdie 3 on 9, and then birdie 2’s on 10, 11, 12, and 13 to pull far ahead of Myers. It looked as Bryant wouldn’t be caught to start, but now MTL was within 3 of him.

Bryant picked up the big duece on 14 to go back up 4. MTL responded with a birdie on 15. After both players birded the par 4 16th, MTL got another birdie on 17 to go -11 on the round with only 1 to play. Bryant was at -6 and held a two stroke lead. Both golfers would bogey 18 to finish and Bryant held on to his lead with a 52 the second round to finish at -14 for the day (100). MTL had the hot round of the day at 47 (-10) to finish at -12 (102).

In the advanced division tournament director Mike Norris fired a hot 51 (-6) in the afternoon to come back on first round leader TJ Murray. It was said that Norris was making putts from everywhere as he passed Murray’s two solid rounds.

Also worth noting is Dawn Geist’s play. Usually, woman play in the women division. Sometimes, there aren’t enough women to form a division, so sometimes they play intermediate men. Well, the youngest Geist was shocked to see that no other women felt like taming Zebulon, and no intermediate men did either! In the true spirit of fun and competition, Geist stepped all the way up to Advanced Men. After 2 consistent rounds (the first tieing her father), Geist was rewarded with a great prize from RADL.
