Cornwallis Doubles June 24

Posted on June 25th, 2008 by Robdunn under Cornwallis Results.

Just 12 folks turned out tonight including a couple of relative newcomers, Perry and Ken, who figured in the outcome. Ken Morefield, playing with Johnny Blackburn took first place straight out with a 17 down on the short short format and Perry, playing with Robbie Dunn held off John Sheffield and Jerry Roach in a playoff (tied at 16 down) after Robbie nailed a 50 foot side arm to stay in it on the first playoff hole and then they took it on the 3rd with a nice birdie.

Valley doubles June 19

Well, there were a couple of teams playing off for second tonight, on a long front - regular back format, one of the teams, both tied at a really good 8 down, won in a playoff. But listen, Steve Shullen, playing by himself, shot 13 under par. Unheard of.

Steve has never played a PDGA event, hasn’t been playing long, and kicks everybody’s ass tonight and I don’t think it’ll be the last time. This guy is on the fast track to the big time.

Cornwallis Doulbles June17

Anybody can birdie all 9 shorts on the front at Cornwallis, and that’s what most of the teams did. But the Long back can present some challenges. The teams that won tonight overcame those challenges, John Sheffield teamed up with Robbie Dunn to slip by Johnny Blackwell and Mike K. by one throw to come out on top of the 17 golfers who showed up tonight on a thankfully cool evening, 13 to 12 down. That’s some good shooting.

Valley Doubles June 12

20 golfers showed up tonight to play the long front - short back tonight. Danny Hill and Scott Roberts tied Matt Keats and Tracy Garland at 11 down, leaving everyone else in the dust.

The ensuing playoff started with a lackluster pair of pars on #1, then Scott fired one right by the chains on #2 to take the win.

Cornwallis Doubles June 10

Man, I hope it doesn’t get any hotter than that.  More than one group fell off at the end of the round;  maybe just by happenstance, but I suspect dehydration.   Playing the long front - short back,  Matt Keats and Scott Roberts held on to ease by two teams one throw behind them.  Keith Sanders and Jack Barkley tied Ed Kushill and himself (odd man paying twice) at -14.  One pole was all it took as Keith and Jack could only manage a shot at a 50 foot putt and Ed slid up to 20 feet.  Although he watched as he got Mach Twoed on his first putt, Ed poured the second putt in to take second place.

We had two aces on the evening with Ed on #14 and Matt on #10.  They split a whopping 14 dollar ace pool.  That makes two weeks in a row the Cornwallis ace has been hit.

June Monthly Results

Good great googly moogly it’s hot. 11 brave souls showed up to play today. Honestly, bring more water than you think you need in weather like this. After a lackluster round in the morning from the longs at Cornwallis for just about everyone, Mike K. put together a great 9 down on the short tees to beat Allen Mitchell 97 to 100 with Robby Crownover close behind with a 103 in the advanced division. No pros showed their faces, really, I don’t blame them. Saving it for later I guess. Matt Haywood took the intermediate division over two newcomers, Turner Oggy in second and Matt Snyder placing third. Welcome to the crowd guys.

Valley Doubles June 5

We had some big arms out there tonight.  We bypassed the usual roll of the dice and decided to play all long pads to tip our hats to Steve Waters, who was instrumental in  adding them in the first place.  Great to see you again Steve.  The story tonight was a relative newcomer for us.  Steve Shullen was tearing it up with his sidearm and Danny Hill rode him all the way home to easily take first place over Josh Friend and Keith Sanders 5 down to 2 down.  Not surprisingly, no one took the ace pool with 20 players out there it goes up to 70+ dollars for next week.

Cornwallis Doubles June 3

Short/short at Cornwallis - don’t miss your birdies, but if you can’t make all the birdies, slide a soft roc around the gateway on #4 and drop in an ace like Jerry Roach did tonight. That one was good for 55 bucks
money
