Points System

2008
HOMEGROWN TOUR
POINTS SYSTEM

Each player will earn points based on their overall performance. Performance will be totaled to determine the champion of the each division as well as the overall points winner.

PERFORMANCE POINTS:

Each player shall receive one point for every player that they beat, regardless of division, plus five for themselves. If you tie a player you do not receive a point, you must score lower than a player to earn a point. Only 13 out of the 17 events will count towards the total. Players who attend more than 13 events will get to count their best 13 events. Players who TMF (do not finish both rounds) only receive points for themselves.

OVERALL POINTS
The points that you earn at every event you attend will be added the same as divisional points except that all of the events attended will determine your overall point total, not your 13 best scores.

REQUIRED PARTICIPATION
To be eligible for the end of the year prizes and trophies the contestant must participate in at least 7 events. If you won your division points race the previous year you must move up a division (Pro and Pro Master excluded).

Players Field Guidelines

The growth of the Homegrown Tour (HGT) has been outstanding over the past few years, thanks to you THE PLAYERS, who have made this the most successful disc golf tour in North Carolina. However, while keeping this in mind, although I am overjoyed at how our Disc Golf Family has grown, there are some issues that need to be addressed with overcrowding. This can present a problem for the course owners, the players and the tournament director. While no single one of the three is more important than the other, we cannot have the HGT as we know it today without ALL THREE working in harmony. Recently, I conducted a survey, and organized a course owners meeting, as well as this season discussed and listened to participant’s feedback on this situation at our HGT events. With a lot of thought and deliberation, I have come to a conclusion that I feel will be acceptable to all as a good resolution for this dilemma.

The considerations:

• The thought of turning the HGT into a one round event has some merit, but do we do this with every event because we had a huge turnout at 2 or 3 events?

• What do we do if we have 90-100 people at a tournament in January, play in the dark?

• Do we play one round if we have 50-60 people show up instead of 130?

These are things among others that we have to consider as a whole if we want to keep the HGT fun and growing. If we don’t address this now, then the growth of the HGT, the best thing in disc golf, will be become unmanageable and may lead to the demise of the HGT as we know and love it. Remember, this year we have set a course attendance record at every event, and to keep this growth we have to address this with the expectation that this will be an ongoing issue.

As you all know, I performed a survey with the following options:

1. One round of 18

2. A cut after the first round

3. A two-day event

4. A limited field cutoff

5. Make the HGT a doubles event

Those who participated in the survey asked:

• If you do one round of 18 (or so) how do you have the inner divisional competitive play and still choose your own group?

• If you have a cut, is it the same people getting cut every time and waiting on the people they carpooled with to finish?

• Are they going to keep coming? Would you?

• If you have a two-day event with some divisions on the first day and some on the second, how do you mix up the field, who will run both days (I can’t), how would this affect carpooling?

• If you have a limited field will it be the same people who cannot participate in the HGT because they are the ones that have to drive 2-3 hours to make most of the events, maybe even putting half of the carpool in the tournament and half out?

• If you make it a doubles event, where is the individual competition that we all crave?

So, after considering all of this with the realization that we cannot make everyone happy, I have come to a conclusion with the hopes that this will address these issues with a minimal amount of conflict.

Guidelines:

• We address every tournament on an individual basis, taking into consideration the time of year as well.

• If we have a field of 5 per hole (4 per hole before time change) it will be a regular two-round event.

• If we have a field of 6 per hole (5 per hole before time change) it will be one round of 18 (or whatever the amount of holes the course has) and then a second round of 9 with each division playing the same holes (or half of the holes on the course.)

• The first round is choosing your group.

• The second round is inner divisional play, still allowing the “hot factor‿ to help you catch up and “bring home the gold.‿

• If we have a field of 7 per hole (6 per hole before time change) then enjoy the day for what it is, a fun experience and play one round of golf.

• Remember that this is all based on turnout at each tournament and will be decided at each tournament after registration. This will not be in effect this year, but will commence in 2008.

Remember, the HGT is a TMF EVENT that was designed to help the course owners generate some income as well as having a tournament at the course that they put so much work and love into. I know that some of you want the HGT to stay the same. But we have to consider the growth. Sometimes there has to be change, and if you think about it, the HGT has changed already as we have grown and expanded our discgolf family.

These decisions were made to try and stick to that ideal as well as maintain a manageable day for all of us. No one wants to play two 4-5 hour rounds of golf every event and get home at 11pm or 12am. Enjoy being a part of each tournament for what it is, not what you may expect it to be. FUN COMPETITIVE DISC GOLF WITH PEOPLE YOU ENJOY TO BE AROUND.
