Disc Golf Association Rules – Can You Drink At PDGA Events?

PDGA is an organization that has rules, regulations and guidelines for its members and the events they hold. Some of these rules are common across a variety of sports, and others are unique to PDGA. For example, PDGA does not allow drinking alcohol at a PDGA event.

The rules of disc golf are pretty clear on this topic. Consuming alcohol is against the rules of play and will result in a disqualification at all PDGA events. However, at C-tier events, the Tournament Director has the authority to warn players rather than immediately disqualifying them.

Why Is There a Difference In Enforcement Of This Rule?

The PDGA has it written into their Competition Manual that the consumption of alcohol during competition is against the rules. This is very similar to the rules of many other sports, and is backed up by actual video evidence from a number of PDGA tournaments.

If someone was drunk, they would probably get DQ’ed during the first round for their behavior, and they’d most likely be DQ’ed again during the second round if it occurred again. That is a clear violation of the rules and the competition manual.

Drinking during a round of pdga is not allowed as it is a rule against the players code of conduct, their ability to project a positive image at the event, and the fact that it can cause other players to be unruly and trashy.

Why Is This Not Enforced At All Tiers Of PDGA?

Unlike in most other organized sports, the PDGA has a dedicated disciplinary committee to investigate and enforce violations of their rules. Any player that violates any of these rules is subject to a disciplinary hearing and can face fines or suspension.

This is a rule that has been in place for years, and it’s an important part of the PDGA’s code of conduct. It also protects the integrity of the competition and keeps players from breaking the rules while playing in tournaments.

Is There a Way To Enforce The Use Of Alcohol At Lunch Time?

If the PDGA is going to make this a rule, it should be enforceable at all tiers of their events. It shouldn’t be up to the TD whether or not to let someone drink during a round of play.

Are There Any Other PDGA-Sanctioned Sports That Allow Drinking While On The Course?

I think that the PDGA is attempting to establish a level playing field in disc golf. That level of play isn’t possible without a certain degree of standardization. That’s the only way to ensure that everyone plays by the same rules and abides by the code of conduct.

So why is this a rule that has to be in the Competition Manual and not in the rule book? Well, because there are other ways to enforce the same rules and it’s not costing the PDGA any money.
